SEPULVEDA PASS, CA --(FOX NEWS) A fast moving brush fire has forced the evacuation of thousands of people from the world famous Getty Center art complex in the Sepulveda pass.
The fire has burned between 30 and 40 acres of dry brush at Getty Center Drive above Sunset Boulevard west of the 405 freeway, according to Los Angeles City fire spokesman Eric Scott.
Sepulveda Boulevard has been closed between Sunset Boulevard and Mulholland Drive, near the Skirball Center due to the fire.
Some 800 staff members and several thousand visitors have been evacuated from the Getty Center, according to Getty spokesman Ron Hartwig.
Any Getty visitors who need cabs, or were planning to be picked up at the Getty Center, are being transported to the Jackie Robinson Stadium, at Constitution Ave. and Sepulveda Blvd., due to road closures near the Getty. People who were planning to pick up friends or family members at the Getty can pick them up at Jackie Robinson Stadium. The fire currently poses no threat to the Getty Center grounds, collection, or buildings, Hartwig says.
The Getty Center has been closed.
Mt. St. Mary's College, which is located about a mile west of the Getty Center, also evacuated school grounds.
Classes are not currently in session, but 100 staff members and about 200 people who were attending a conference at the school were evacuated, according to officials at the school.
The fire is not threatening any structures, but evacuations are underway as a precaution.
About 250 firefighters are battling the blaze along with at least four helicopters.
Firefighters are getting water from the Stone Canyon Reservoir.
No injuries have been reported and no structures were damaged or destroyed.
The Getty Center is perched on the brush-covered Santa Monica Mountains above the west side of Los Angeles.
